RFD Announces New AirFest Kick-Off Concert

Concert Coordinated Through New Partnership with RAVE

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) announced the details of the first-ever 2012 Rockford AirFest Kickoff Concert, which is being coordinated through the airport’s new partnership with RAVE. Cheap Trick will headline the AirFest kick-off concert on June 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the BMO Harris Bank Center.

Tickets for the concert start at $20 and go on sale at 10 a.m. on March 31. Tickets are available online at www.thebmoharrisbankcenter.com or at the BMO Harris Bank Center Box Office, 300 Elm St., Rockford.

“This concert and partnership is a great way to bring the AirFest momentum and excitement into the downtown area,” said RFD Director Mike Dunn. “Partnering with RAVE for the kickoff concert allows us to bring thousands of attendees from throughout the Midwest to show off and utilize two of Rockford’s great assets; the downtown and airport.”

“RAVE has partnered with many organizations in the community to fulfill our role to improve the quality of life in the Rockford region by bringing first-class entertainment options to the downtown area,” said BMO Harris Bank Center General Manager Gordon Kaye. “We’ve seen great success for the community when we come together with other organizations for various partnerships and collaborations. We look forward to working with the airport for the common goal of helping to further enhance AirFest for both visitors and residents.”

RAVE has also partnered with the 4th of July committee, Kegel Harley-Davidson for its Centennial Celebration and the Rockford Park District for a variety of events in Davis Park including Weekends in the Park and the BMO Harris Bank Winter Wonderland.

RAVE and RFD have previously collaborated through the Rockford IceHogs for the launch of the new FlyRFD.com Bench Box, which is located on the glass between the player benches in the BMO Harris Bank Center. During each home game, IceHogs fans have the opportunity to win access to the two first-class airline seats in the Bench Box.

“The airport serves as an economic generator and quality of life enhancement for the region. AirFest allows us to demonstrate both of these important roles by bringing in thousands of visitors to the community, as well as offering a great weekend of entertainment for residents,” said Greater Rockford Airport Authority (GRAA) Chairman Bharat Puri.
