E-2 Hawkeye

  • The E-2 “Hawkeye” is carrier based and is operated as an airborne, early warning and command control aircraft for the aircraft battle group. The E-2 also provides other functions such as surface surveillance coordination, strike and interceptor control, search and rescue guidance and communications relay. One of the distinguishing characteristics of the E-2 is their computerized antenna which is mounted in a 24 foot, rotating dome above the fuselage. In addition to the US Navy, The E-2 is operated by armed forces from seven other nations ranging from France to Egypt.
