The KC-135 is a long range, military re-fueling aircraft. Its design was based on the original Boeing 707 and 720 airframes. The KC-135 can carry up to 31,275 gallons of jet fuel and/or up to 83 passengers. Even though most of the KC-135’s date back to the 1950’s and 1960’s, they have been updated and re-engined to increase their usefulness in today’s military. The KC-135 displayed at Airfest 2009 is based at Grissom Air Force Base in Indiana.
